Humanise a thesis or dissertation

Paste a chapter that sounds stiff, choose the Academic paper type and humanisation rewrites it with a different sentence rhythm and without worn phrases. The demo below handles a section of up to 3,000 characters without signing in; a whole chapter needs a free account.

How machine-like the text reads after the rewrite, by our own measure of sentence rhythm, AI phrases and repetition. 0 = natural, 100 = machine-like. It is not a detector score.

How to humanise a thesis

When humanisation makes sense

On your own text that sounds stiff: a theoretical part written to a standard, a chapter translated from sources in other languages, or text you wrote with AI as an assistant where the rules allow it. The rewrite gives it a more natural rhythm and leaves the content as it is.

It does not help where the rules forbid AI or require you to disclose it. Text generated by a model is still text from a model after the rewrite — Charles University in Prague states in its recommendation on final theses that undisclosed use of AI can lead to a negative assessment at the defence or to disciplinary proceedings.

What to paste and how to set up the rewrite

Paste the continuous text of one chapter without the reference list and long quotations — humanisation rewrites everything you paste. Choose the Academic paper type: the rewrite then keeps an impersonal academic style and is meant to keep quotations, references, names and numbers word for word.

Leave the deep rewrite through another language switched off for a thesis. It breaks up what is left of the machine rhythm, but holds the terminology of your field less well.

What to check after the rewrite

Compare terms, numbers, units, names and references to sources with the original. The rewrite has a rule to keep them and watches the length, but it does not check factual accuracy automatically.

Then read the text through your supervisor's eyes: does it still sound academic? The small human irregularities the rewrite adds may not suit an academic text — change back the ones that don't fit.

A thesis chapter by chapter

Rewrite your thesis chapter by chapter, not all at once. The theoretical part and your own research are two different texts and each needs a different amount of editing — the research part often needs none.

With an account the rewrite also follows your sample texts, so it gets closer to how you write. You can then check the finished chapter with detection and see which passages still read as machine-made.

FAQ on humanising a thesis

Will a humanised thesis pass a detector?

That cannot be guaranteed. Each detector measures something different, and detectors change. At the defence, what matters most is whether you can explain your work.

Do I have to disclose humanisation in my thesis?

If your university's rules require you to disclose the use of AI tools, humanisation is one of them. A short note in the thesis does no harm; keeping quiet about it can.

Will humanisation also rewrite an abstract in another language?

Yes. Humanisation detects the language on its own and rewrites a Czech or German abstract, for example, by the rules for that language. Paste the abstract separately, not together with the English chapter.

How much text can I rewrite for free?

Without signing in, two rewrites per 30 days with texts up to 3,000 characters. A free account gives five humanisations per 30 days and texts up to 300,000 characters, so a whole chapter at once.

Rewrite a whole chapter with a free account

Five humanisations per 30 days, texts up to 300,000 characters, analysis before and after the rewrite and a history of your humanisations. The account is free and needs no card.
